Listen to this episode of The Starting Point
Welcome back to the starting point podcast, from thestartingpointpodcast.com; your detour around writer’s block. For those of you joining us for the first time, what we do here is provide you with a concept for a piece to be written, as well as provide a starting point. The starting point is a sentence to be used as the first line in your writing.
Last time our starting point sentence was:
“Today I will be reviewing the album ‘__________’ by ‘_____________.’”
This was to have been the introduction to an album review you wrote about an album in your collection that you do not frequently listen to. I hope every enjoyed writing their album reviews, maybe you even discovered, or rediscovered an album from your collection that you truly enjoy!
Today you will be writing a letter to your favorite author. They can be living or dead. Use this as an opportunity to ask the questions about their writing, their career, or even their life. You will start your letter with the typical “Dear _______,” and then use today’s starting point sentence.
Today’s Starting Point sentence is:
“Over time, I’ve truly enjoyed reading your work. I wanted to ask you a couple questions.”
If your author is still alive, you may even consider sending them this letter. If your author is NOT still alive, it would likely be a waste of a stamp.
One to two pages should be sufficient for this exercise, but if you have more to say, by all means, write more!
Once again, your Starting Point sentence for today is:
“Over time, I’ve truly enjoyed reading your work. I wanted to ask you a couple questions.”
